Tips on Getting Pregnant

There are no guarantees on getting pregnant.  Some couples entertain dinner and a bottle of wine and are pregnant and some try for years with levels of frustration one can’t imagine. If getting pregnant is your goal, there are some tips experts believe can help with the situation often related to discipline.

It is said that having sex with your partner three times a week or more is the best way to start.  Getting pregnant begins with having sex regularly and not missing opportunities.  Couples often try to only have scheduled sex when they believe they are in ovulation however women do not “always” ovulate when they think they do.  If couples have sex three times a week, they will make sure to have sex with their ovulation period occurs and when the time is right.  It is also advised that it is best to have sex before ovulation and not after.  Sometimes when couples try to predict ovulation, they wait too long before engaging in sex, which decreases the odds of becoming pregnant.  After ovulation occurs, the egg can survive up to one day, or twenty-four hours.  The male sperm will live up to five days.  If a couple accurately predicts the day of ovulation, and plan on having sex two or three days before, the changes of fertilization occurring at the right time are better than waiting until ovulation occurs on the exact date.

It is true that pregnancy will not occur unless intercourse is performed during ovulation.  Using an ovulation kit is a great way to “predict” ovulation periods where your chances of getting pregnant are planned and predicted.  Another great option which aids in predicting opportune times for getting pregnant are fertility monitors.  They are very easy to use and will predict these times when partners should have intercourse in order for pregnancy to have good chances of occurring.

Before attempting a planned pregnancy, it is also recommended that both parties see your doctors for a checkup and possible physical.  The women should see her OBGYN.  If infections or possible STDs go untreated, this could affect your chances of becoming pregnant.  Poor health is not a good way to get started.

When trying to get pregnant, there are positions and conditions that increase chances as well.  For example, the missionary position of having sex with your partner allows sperm to stay longer, which increases odds of becoming pregnant.  It is also a good idea to pick times where stress is low, health is good, and times are relaxed and enjoyable.  Don’t view getting pregnant as a job or another “to-do” in your day.  Get excited about it, relax, and make time for yourselves to enjoy making your baby.
