Second TrimesterWelcome to your second trimester, also referred to as the "golden trimester" by many! This is referred to as the "golden trimester" for many reasons: First of all you are no longer experiencing many of the initial symptoms of early pregnancy. You are also in that middle period where the baby is not yet big enough to create new pains in your body. Gone (for the most part) are the nauseous feelings and sleepless nights. You are starting to regain that energy that you never thought would return and you are very optimistic about your pregnancy. Many moms feel comfortable sharing the good news of their pregnancy in the second trimester because even though there is some risk of miscarriage in the second trimester, it is much lower than in the first trimester. It is also during the second trimester that your pregnancy will become more noticeable, especially by four or five months. You are going to view this phase of your pregnancy as the time everything grows! Stretch marks begin to show. Thanks to the increase in estrogen, everything has a better blood supply. It's also a time of growth for your baby. By the end of the second trimester, the fetus will be about thirteen to sixteen inches long and weighs about two to three pounds. And it's during the second trimester that you will begin to feel your baby kicking inside of you. Enjoy this trimester as the third trimester will present an entirely different set of challenges.
