Week 25 of Pregnancy

Your Baby and Changes…

Your baby is approximately 1.5 pounds and around 13.5 -13.7 inches long at week 25 of pregnancy. From this point on however your baby's weight and length may vary somewhat so don’t be alarmed if your baby is bigger or smaller than the averages. Your baby is continuing to mature during pregnancy week 25 and for the next several weeks. The most significant development during this week, centers around the lungs as blood vessels in the lungs continue to develop this week. Other things that are shaping up during pregnancy at twenty five weeks include our baby's nostrils, which may open up by the end of this week. Your baby’s hands are now fully developed and he spends most of his awake time using his hands to feel his way around. His brain and nerve endings are developed enough now so that your baby can feel the sensation of touch.

Your baby's arms and legs have grown to almost the proportions they will be at birth, which is still sort of short. The structures of your baby's spine are now made up of 150 joints, 33 rings and some 1,000 ligaments.

The capillaries, the teeniest blood vessels, are now forming in your baby's body, giving his formerly translucent skin a pink glow.

Your Body and Changes…

Your uterus measures as large as a volleyball at this stage.  You may feel very normal at this stage, and quite comfortable with the pregnancy. As your belly continues to expand you may notice you experience more pain or discomfort in your pelvis and lower back; this is perfectly normal given all the changes going on inside you with the baby.  While in general you might feel pretty good, you could still experience some mood swings during this phase in your pregnancy.  And unfortunately it’s very common to have hemorrhoids during this phase of your pregnancy as well. You are probably starting to think about what your baby’s room will look like, and what adjustments to your house you will need to make. This is all part of the process as you start to realize you are getting closer and closer to the delivery date.
