Week 22 of PregnancyYour Baby and Changes… At week 22 of pregnancy your baby is now around 10.9 inches long your baby weighs over 15 ounces! The baby is getting bigger with every day and uses every day in the womb as practice for life outside the uterus. The fetus has fully formed fingerprints and loud noise can wake up the baby. He may begin kicking and turning around, too. Your baby's heartbeat can be heard with a stethoscope in week twenty two. His nose is taking on a more defined shape as cartilage (the soft bone) appears. If you baby is a boy, the testes have begun to descend from the pelvis into the scrotum. His lips are becoming more and more distinct with every day. Also his eyelids and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. Inside his belly, his pancreas is developing daily. Your Body and Changes… As your baby continues to grow and fill out, you are probably noticing how quickly you are growing as well. By pregnancy week 22 your uterus has risen to roughly ¾ of an inch above your navel. While your belly isn't tremendous yet, it certainly changes your profile. Your belly is not only sticking out at this point, but is probably getting in your way, in ways you never could have imagined. You may have trouble squeezing through places in your house that you normally had no issues with. It might be harder and harder for you to tie your shoes. In general you're still feeling pretty good and active in this second trimester. Many women start noticing stretch marks at or around this time, though some won't notice them until the third trimester and still others will barely get any stretch marks during pregnancy. You may also notice around this time your belly button starts to poke out during pregnancy. This will happen for most women at or around 20-22 weeks pregnancy. Don't worry; like most of the negative body changes you face, this will go away after delivery. It is also not uncommon to begin feeling back pain at around week twenty two. Pregnancy pillows offer a lot of support for your lower back and are a great way for you to relieve some of the back pain you are feeling. Articles
