Week 13 of PregnancyYour Baby and Changes… During week 13 of pregnancy, your baby is now weighing in at three fourths of an ounce to almost an ounce. Besides the baby still being extremely little, all of his features should be able to be identified to include a head, arms, legs, and a torso. The baby’s liver is producing insulin which will aid in the control of blood sugar as he grows and develops. Another important development will be the movement of locations of your baby’s eyes, which are at the sides of his head, and will move to the front of the head where they will reside from this point on. Your Body and Changes… By week thirteen, your uterus is expanding further, which can cause round ligament pain, cramping, and/or mild discomfort. This pain is usually harmless and will disappear in a very short time. If you experience this pain, it is usually felt alongside your abdomen, and is a sharp pain which can be uncomfortable to the Mommy. This usually occurs due to shifting positions of the body to quickly, or simply changing positions from sitting to standing too quickly, so take your time. If you notice this pain accompanied by other symptoms such as bleeding and cramping, you should contact your physician immediately so he may investigate and put you at ease. You are now in the first week of your second trimester!!! What an accomplishment as a new Mommy! Great job!!! Although the risk for miscarriage does not disappear altogether, the risk is reduced significantly at this stage of pregnancy. While still too little for maternity clothes, you are probably living in pajamas and/or sweat pants to stay comfortable, as other regular clothes are probably not fitting right at the moment. You are probably noticing bumps along the breasts, which are glands which help the breasts develop during pregnancy, while your belly is steadily getting bigger as a result of your growing life. In your second trimester, mood swings should be less and you should experience more comfort. Enjoy it, as this next twelve weeks will be as relaxed as you can get during a full term pregnancy. You might also want to take advantage of your partner, as the increase in blood flow through your body can lead to a pleasurable experience intercourse. Make the best of it!!! Articles
