Week Five of Pregnancy

Your Baby and Changes…

In week five of pregnancy, your baby has grown to become approximately 1mm in size.  In comparison, that is about the size of a small pebble.  The vitals of your baby are growing rapidly, as the formation of your baby’s heart, muscles, and the central nervous system.   The body is forming as is the skeleton of your baby.

In this stage of pregnancy, the baby’s heart development seems to be the most important, and will eventually start pumping blood throughout the newly formed body of your baby.   The heart is formed under multiple layers of cells called the mesoderm.  Cartilage, muscles, and bones also are forming under this stage of development.

Your Body and Changes…

While typically physicians will not see you at this stage, and others may not notice your pregnancy, you may begin to feel as if you are pregnant and begin to see bloating or a little “bump” in your belly as a result of your developing baby.  Many women detect this and find a noticeable change, even though it may not be noticeable to others outside of you and your family.  Some women may even mistake an early pregnancy as a menstrual change in the body.  If this period of a “premenstrual” feeling is more than a couple of days, do take the opportunity to engage in a pregnancy test to make sure you find your result to be positive or negative.

Unfortunately at this stage, this is also where common complications may occur in pregnancy.  Some women become capable of experiencing PID, which stands for “pelvic inflammatory disease” and symptoms occur in the form of vaginal bleeding, stomach pain, or simply nausea.  If this occurs, see your physician right away.

Changes in your body will occur, and some women may begin to feel upset to their stomach, common nausea, and some don’t experience this at all.  Always keeping your stomach full helps to eliminate some of this pain or sickness, so always be sure to eat properly, frequently, and healthy.  Others notice tender breast, enlarged breasts, and morning sickness.  This can occur throughout the entire pregnancy, yet it has been determines that the common timeframe is within ninety days of pregnancy, and then this experience will begin to taper off.
